ETS' core business in fluid process and particulate dynamics stems
from the extensive application of our unique Particle Tracing System
and detection technology. ETS have over 10 years experience in the
use of particulate, dye and bacteriological tracers and provide
independent tracer, monitoring and project management services.

ETS have developed a unique tracing capability, which involves
environmentally benign non-toxic fluorescent tracer particles
which mimic size and density of a wide variety of target species
including sediment, pathogens and sludge. This patented technology
utilizes fibre-optic laser equipment to detect environmentally
benign fluorescent EcoTrace® and GeoTrace®
particles. Multiple Tracer colours are available for complex
projects, such as tracing multiple diffuse pollution sources.
EcoTrace® particles are manufactured to mimic the size,
density and surface charge of the target species for a wide
variety of applications.
GeoTrace® particles involve coating a fluorescent signal
on to natural sediment (silt, sand) collected from a study
site.
Tracers can be detected both with an in-situ, real-time laser optics
system and by discrete sampling and analysis. The spatial and temporal
distribution of Tracers provides invaluable information about the
fate of the target species.
Advantages of EcoTrace® and GeoTrace® technology are:
Our Tracers are non-toxic and environmentally benign.
Resistant and stable in high energy environments.
Multiple tracers for simultaneous monitoring.
Variable size from <1µm - 1.0mm (or natural sediment
from the study site).
Variable density from <1.0 - >2.65gcm -3 (dependent
on the target species).
Real-time in-situ 2D/3D detection using innovative fibre-optic
laser detection equipment.
Fibre-optic detection limits to 10-12 dilution in real-time.
Discrete analysis detection limits to 10-14 dilution.
Point and non-point source identification.
Ability to label and quantify proportional volumes.
Invaluable for numerical model validation for all marine,
freshwater and process applications.
In addition to our EcoTrace® and GeoTrace® products,
ETS use a range of fluorescent dyes, chemical and biological Tracers
and are developing non-genetic nucleic acid Tracers, in collaboration
with another UK company. Dyes and particulate Tracers can be used
simultaneously to determine hydraulics and particulate/contaminant
behaviour. Complementary tracing products used in Tracer studies
are:

Non-toxic bacteriophages.
Fluorescein.
